BROOKE

Name: Brooke Ritchie (She/Her)

Program: 4th-Year Life Science

Fun Fact: I play varsity Field Hockey at Queen's University!

Favourite Thing About Program: I love how broad the topics are in my program with a variety of options from anatomy to reproductive health, global population health, infectious diseases and more! The broad range of health and science based courses has allowed me to customize my program to my personal interests and I have been able to discover so many new fields and topics that have sparked interest for jobs I may want to work towards after school!

Favourite Thing About Program: I enjoy that I get to learn about a wide range of topics in civil, such as structural, environmental, and geotechnical engineering.

  • Favourite Thing About Pogram: My favourite thing about Chemical Engineering is that it is involved in almost every aspect of human life like most items used by people every day, it can potentially improve the quality of people's lives, and save the environment by developing alternative technologies.

Fun Fact: I have two dogs named Fergie and Rudy.

Favourite Thing About Program: My favourite thing about my program is getting to collaborate with researchers across Canada and work alongside like-minded individuals who are passionate about using research as a means to help others.

Fun Fact: I play princesses for kids parties and volunteer at my local hospital visiting the children's ward as their favourite princess

Favourite Thing About Program: I love that everyone in health sciences supports each other. You never struggle to find somebody to study with or to help you better your understanding. Both professors and peers want you to succeed and are always there to help.

Fun Fact: I love to sail! One of the coolest experiences of my life so far has been the opportunity to sail across Lake Huron in a Brigantine Tallship! 

Favourite Thing About Program: I’m a first-year student in Queen’s Applied Science (Engineering) program! My favourite thing about engineering is the amazing, supportive community that the faculty creates. You meet so many like-minded, hard-working and supportive people in your classes and labs!

Favourite Thing About Program: My favourite thing about Life Sciences is that I get to learn about so many different interesting topics, and that we are not limited to one specific subject!

JASMINE

Name: Jasmine Xue (She/Her)

Program: 1st-Year Health Sciences

Fun Fact: I like to crochet and watch kdramas!

Favourite Thing About Program: I love the courses as they're really specific to what I enjoy learning such as pharmacology and social and physical determinants of health. I also love that it's a flipped classroom setting where I learn on my own time and then meet up in groups to consolidate the content learned. Everyone I've met so far are nice and supportive!

Name: Marissa Smail (She/Her)

Program: 3rd-Year Applied Mathematics/Mechanical Engineering

Fun Fact: I learned to crochet this summer.

Favourite Thing About Program: How many options it opens up to you after school. It uniquely integrates mathematics and engineering, providing students with a strong foundation in mathematics combined with a wide range of engineering skills, preparing us for industry and graduate studies. Also, Apple Math is a small program of around 80 students a year so, it feels like a community working together towards the goal of graduating.

Fun Fact: I have completed my level II scientific diver training. 

Favourite Thing About Program: Mining operations are super fascinating to me. My favourite thing about mining is learning about innovations in mining tech, as they make mines a safer work environment and more environmentally sustainable.
